Dr. Tao Liang is the Director of Machine Learning at NIO. Having joined in 2016, he leads a team in the Digital Cockpit department, focusing on in-cabin vision and audio applications. Tao is a seasoned technologist with extensive experience in applied machine learning and scalable distributed systems.
As an entrepreneur, Tao was a co-founder and/or early employee of several startups that eventually were acquired by companies such as Cisco, Roche, and Skype/Microsoft. He started his career as a research scientist at Xerox Palo Alto Research Center (PARC), and subsequently commercialized a number of technologies from PARC and other Xerox research centers into a new software business unit called DocuShare.
Tao received PhD and M.S. degrees from Stanford University, and a B.S. from Drexel University. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and has been awarded several U.S. patents.
