Tim studied Automotive Engineering at Loughborough University during which time he took a year placement with an electronics company where he developed a tyre pressure monitoring system for motorsport. This system attracted the interest of all major F1 teams and McLaren purchased exclusive rights to the system as well as recruiting Tim to join its team.
Soon after joining McLaren, Tim was offered a position developing control systems for its F1 car. In 2007 when MAT was awarded the contract to supply the Standard ECU to all teams in F1, Tim moved across to develop the gearbox control strategy which is still used in all cars today. Tim then architected and led the development of MAT’s next generation flagship ECU for F1, which was successfully introduced on all cars in 2013.
In 2010, Tim moved into a commercial role and has since been engaged in developing new business for the company.
